"She riseth while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens."
Continuing my study of the Proverbs 31 woman, it surprises me how much this godly lady worked!!! She may not have had a 9 to 5 job as some women do, but she kept her hands busy. In the NIV Bible, this verse reads like this, "She gets up while it is still night, she provides food for her family, and portions for her female servants." Basically, she gets up before dawn, while everyone else is asleep and prepares breakfast, then organizes her day. But, not only does she feed her own household, she helps others in need. (I am already feeling convicted by this woman's life!)
I realize that, as women, God has put a great responsibility on our shoulders. We are nurturers; therefore, (duh!), we nurture!!! It is in our nature to take care of things...children, husbands, homes, you name it, we're there to take care of it!! We should not be lazy or slothful. Our husbands do not want to work hard all day and come home to find an unkept house, children running around tearing things up, and then have to fend for themselves when it comes to dinner. (On a side note: I realize that a lot of homes today have both spouses working full-time jobs. In that case, there should be a shared responsibility of household chores. My husband and I both worked outside the home at one point and we had to "equalize" the household duties. It worked for us at that time.)
Ladies, we are so much more important than we realize!! We are to be "keepers at home," according to Titus 2:5. This does not necessarily mean you can't work in a career or a job outside the home. In essence, we are to work when we are home and protect our families. We do this by praying for them and providing a sense of security for our children and husbands. We can also do this even when we have to work to provide extra income for our household.
So, if you are having trouble in this area, ask God for help and then start shaking off that laziness and chaos! You will be amazed at the difference in your family!
